Simboli, Mary "Marie" June (10 February 1940 - 21 November 2008) With Flag

Mary "Marie" J. Simboli, 68, of Greenwood, Wisconsin died Nov. 21, 2008, after a brief battle with cancer. She died peacefully at her home with her family by her side.

Mary June Hollman was born Feb. 10, 1940, in Colby, the daughter of Verona (Bayuk) Hollman. She was raised and received her education in Milwaukee, graduating from Nathan Hale High School in 1958.

She served in the U.S. Air Force from June 30, 1958, to July 31, 1959. She met Walter Simboli while serving in the Air Force, and they were united in marriage April 4, 1959, at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, IL. Marie raised her family and worked in childcare while traveling across the country with Walt. After their retirement from the Air Force in 1977, they moved to Greenwood so they could be closer to family. Marie then went back to school to be a nurse’s aide. She worked at the Neillsville Memorial Home for several years and at the Greenwood Bakery for many years. She served the community for many years in this capacity. In 1984, they became foster parents for the first time.

Over the years they have fostered over 100 children. Marie and Walt provided a safe haven and a loving atmosphere for many children to call home. Her 24 years of dedicated service, putting others above herself, have touched the hearts and lives of all who knew her.

Marie had many interests but especially loved taking care of kids and playing the Lotto.

She is survived by her loving husband, Walter, of greenwood; one son, Tony (Sara) Simboli of Greenwood; two daughters, Angela (Theresa) Simboli of Greenwood, and Lisa (Kevin) Ritter of Whitehall; two adopted daughters, Shelly Simboli of Gilman and Cynthia (Juan) Infante-Sandoval of Austin, MN; 12 grandchildren, Cassie (Ryan) Burcaw, Desiree, Mike and Jerry Thomas, Rachel, Lindsay and Taylor Simboli, Hannah, Andrew, Rebekah and Benjamin Ritter and Julio Sandoval. Marie has been a foster mom to many children, including Ann Saule, Carrie Wellman and Lisa Cullen.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Terri Thomas, in 2003, her mother and one brother, Eddie Hollman.

A celebration of Marie’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at Grace United Methodist Church in Greenwood with Rev. Dong Su Lee officiating. Visitation will be held at the church Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
