Calvin Mills, ex-Clark official dies at Age 81
Neillsville-Calvin B. Mills, 81, Neillsville, died at Memorial Hospital Thursday morning of natural causes.
Mills served as administrator and assistant administrator of Clark County Health Care Center in Owen from 1945-1970. His son, Arlyn A. Mills, currently holds the position.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Calvary Lutheran Church. The Rev. Paul Forde will officiate. Friends may call at the Gesche Funeral Home from 6-9 p.m. Sunday and from 10-11 a.m. Monday at the church.
Mr. Mills was born June 27, 1906, in the town of Weston, to Claude and Charlotte Mills. he graduated from Neillsville High School in 1925 and farmed with his parents. In 1928, he was elected clerk of the town of Weston, his first public office.
He married Elnora Uhlman Oct. 15, 1930, in Neillsville.
In 1932, at the age of 26, he was elected Clark County clerk, the youngest clerk to hold that position. He held the post until 1945, when he resigned to take the administrator's position at the Clark County Health Care Center.
He served as an officer on a variety of committees and boards including president, vice president and secretary of the Wisconsin Association of County Hospitals. He was also active in the Kiwanis Club and the Dairy Herd Improvement Association. He retired Dec. 31, 1970 and moved to Neillsville.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter Arlene Gierl of Bessemer, MI; two sons, Donald of White Bear Lake, MN, and Arlyn of Eau Claire; two sisters, Mrs. Jessie Foemmel, Neillsville and Mrs. William Genteman, Chili; a brother, Glen Mills, Loyal; eight grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents, three brothers and a sister.
