Last rites were conducted by Rev. A.M. Muckerheide at St. Bernard’s Church at 9:30 o’clock Friday morning for Mrs. George Haas, who passed away April 5th, 1949 at her home in the city after a short illness. She had reached the age of 65 years and 9 days.
Mary Kocherer was born at St. Anne, Wis., on March 26th, 1884. She was united in marriage to George Haas on Sept. 28, 1909. They resided in the village from 1909 t0 1918, at which time they moved to a farm south of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.). Two and one-half years ago Mrs. Haas and her husband retired from farming and returned to Thorp city where they had built a new new home.
She is survived by her husband, three sons, Conrad and Bernard of Cadott, and Leonard at home; four daughters, (Margaret) Mrs. John Budzinski, (Marcella), Mrs. Lawrence Schultz and (Manetta) Mrs. Zygmund Danielewicz, of Thorp, and (Annabelle) Mrs. Frank Budzinski of Chicago; two brothers, John Kocherer of Stanley and Joseph Kocherer of the Veterans’ Hospital, Wood, Wis.; two sisters, (Anna) Mrs. Joe Dulek of Thorp and (Alvina) Mrs. George Schmidt of Elk Mound, Wis. Two of her children died in infancy and two sisters, Edith and Veronica preceded her in death.
She was laid to rest in St. Bernard’s Cemetery, the following Forester Lodge members serving as pallbearers: Anton Baldeschwiler, Gilbert Voelker, Ray Ketterhagen, Walter Verkuilen, John Maier and George Maier. Honorary pallbearers were Margaret Voelker, Olga Mertens, Mesdames Arthur Soderberg, Gilbert Voelker, Emil Henke, Walter Boelter, Joe Gengler and Walter Verkuilen.
