Sniegowski, Florian Harry (3 May 1923 - 22 December 2008) With Flag

Florian H. Sniegowski, age 85, of Thorp, died at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN on Monday, December 22, 2008.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 29, 2008, at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Thorp. Fr. Keith Apfelbeck officiated and inurnment followed at Riverside Cemetery in Withee. Military rites were conducted by the Thorp American Legion. Visitation was held at the Church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.

Florian Harry Sniegowski was born on May 3, 1923, in the Town of Reseburg, rural Thorp, to Jacob and Joanna (Borchardt) Sniegowski. He was raised on the family farm and received his education at the Reseburg School. Florian moved to Chicago, where he worked for a short time before enlisting into the U. S. Air Force on October 23, 1942. He served until his honorable discharge on November 24, 1945. Florian returned to Thorp and bought the home farm from his parents. He was united in marriage to Caroline Rogalski on November 24, 1948 at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Thorp. Florian farmed until 1973 and then went to work for the Thorp School District. After retiring in 1995, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, Caroline.

He was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church, the Thorp American Legion, and had many interests, but especially enjoyed reading, model airplanes, air-shows, and hunting with his sons.

Florian is survived by his wife, Caroline, of Withee; four children: Jerry (Mary Jane) of St. Louis, MO, Cindee Harvey of Elk River, MN, Dr. Jeffry (Audrey) of Tijeras, NM, and Gary of Eau Claire; five grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters: Helen Hmielak, Harriet Lutz, Jean Koltis, Loretta Schultze and Alice Ciolkosz; and eight brothers: Joseph, Edward, Casimir, Stanley, Walter, Frank, Erwin and Chester.
