The house of C. F. Grow, had, one day last week, as very narrow escape from destruction of fire. Mrs. Grow had occasion to step out to one of the neighbors, and left, as she supposed, everything secure about the stove, but on the return she found the house fill of smoke. Thinking the pipes had come un-jointed, she started to make a examination of them, in going around the stove, she stepped into a good sized hole that spark from the stove has burned through the carpet and floor, a judicious application of water soon put an end to the burning. It was a very narrow escape.

J. S. Edminster, on Sunday last, came around with his splendid teams of bays to give the printers and the printers wives a sleigh ride. It was a beautiful day, jus the sort a person would choose for "sleigh ride in December with sweet Susy Brown," though the roads are none of the best, what little snow has fallen, is worn pretty well off. After driving around the village a short time, M. E. Started his team for Unity, 5 miles distant, drove down to Spaulding & Co.’s mill and thence back to Colby, and up to his (Mr. E.’s) residence, the whole drive occupying but about a hour and a half. After partaking of the excellent repast prepared by Mrs. Edminster, we again took our seats in the sleigh and were drove home, well pleased with the way the Sabbath has been spent.
