Meade, Emerette #2 (6 JUL 1823 - 11 FEB 1906)

Emerette Louise Avery was born July 6, 1823, at Saratoga Springs, N.Y. In early childhood she moved with her parents to St. Catherine, Canada. In 1842 she was married to Eli Meade. In 1856 they removed to Wisconsin and settled at the mouth of the east fork of Black River, on a farm known as the Meade place, where they resided until 1873. Mr. Meade erected one of the first mills that was ever built on Black River. From there they moved onto a farm a few miles south of Alma Center, where they resided until 1888. After the death of her husband, Mrs. Meade made her home principally with Robt. French Sr., whose wife was her foster daughter.

Jan. 4th Mrs. Meade fell and broke her arm, but was on the road to recovery when she was taken sick with pneumonia, and died Feb. 11, 1906.

Deceased leaves two nieces and one nephew in Centralia, Wash. She resided in Neillsville for some time with Mrs. Mary Furlong and many friends will mourn her.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday by Rev. W. P. Burrows at the home of Robert French and the remains were taken to Alma Center for burial.
