Cowboy Roundup (1950)
People coming to downtown Neillsville last Saturday afternoon might have wondered whether they were on the edge of the "wild west" - or at least seeing some Frontier Day Celebration.
The event was, however, a cowboy roundup staged by the Adler Theater, in connection with a western epic showing there. Approximately 300 small boys and girls took part in the parade; 45 of them decked out in cowboy and cowgirl costumes.
A special event was the performance of the trick horse of Walter Wirkuty of the Town of York. Also on horseback were two Freezy children, Joan Mott and Garry Ziegler.
Awards for the best cowboy and cowgirl costumes were won by Richard Nemitz, Mary Beth Urban and Gary Thornton.
Other winners, each of whom was treated to a Hop-along Cassidy bar by Kearns Drug Store, were: Richard Lee, Julius Hagen, Bennie Bush, Lois Steinhilber, Kenny Kirby, Warren Bradbury, Allen Hovey, Ruth Hagen, Chuck Urban and Kay Waite.
Judges Harry Rosenquist and Carl Olson said they had a difficult job in selecting the winners.
