Nirva, John, Mrs. (14 SEP 1885 - 1 JUL 1944)

Mrs. John Nirva, 59, (nee Maki), who lived southeast of Owen, died at Victory hospital in Stanley on Saturday, July 1, at 4:15 p.m., after being a patient there for three weeks. She had a gallstone operation, after which peritonitis set in.

Mrs. Nirva was born in Alavuus, Waasa, Finland, on Sept. 14, 1885. She is survived by her husband and two children, William of Owen and Bertha of Beverly Hills, Cal., a grandson, Chester Nirva, and two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Otto Haltkanen, Mrs. Charles Hendrickson and Math Maki, all of Ely, Minn., and Erick Maki of Canada.

Funeral rites were conducted in the Finnish Lutheran church in Owen with the Rev. Autio officiating, burial taking place in the Riverside cemetery. Pallbearers were Ed Klessig, Ed Horner, Gust Piekola, Isaac Wainite, Henry Schnoor and Joseph Kangat. Girls in charge of flowers were Mildred Jennings, Norma Kolpanen, Doris Nedland, Helen Piekola and Sylvia Hutter.

Relatives from out of town who attended the funeral were Mrs. Charles Hendrickson and Mrs. Emil Niemi of Ely, Minn.

The Loyal Tribune extends sympathy to the bereaved relatives.
