John Jefferson was born in Scotland, March 5, 1841. When a child he went to Canada, later moving to the State of Wisconsin and settling in Adams county, where he resided until his death.

He was married in 1869 to Marilda Kane, who survives her husband. Eight children were born to this union, of which seven are living, one, Minnie, dying in infancy. Those living are, Henry E., John H., G. Fred, Robert B., Eugene, Emma A. and Mrs. Rena Goffe of Twin Valley. He also leaves to mourn his loss three brothers, two sisters and three grandchildren, all of which were with him, except one sister, Mrs. Nellie Hans, of Dakota. His death is also mourned by a large number of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Jefferson was a man highly respected by all of his acquaintances. His death is deeply felt throughout the whole community. He died in the Christian faith and among his last words he said, all was at peace with him and his God. The family has the sympathy of the entire community. The funeral services were held at the house Sunday morning at 10:30, Rev. C. A. Sitser officiating, the interment being in the Monroe Center cemetery.
