Herrmann, Edward O. (15 JUN 1921 - 4 NOV 2013)

Edward Oscar Herrmann, age 92, died at his residence of Pine Ridge Assisted Living Home in Colby, Wisconsin on November 4, 2013 surrounded by his family. A memorial service will be held at 1:30p.m. on Sunday November 10, 2013 at First United Church of Christ in Colby, WI. Pastor Teri Hanson will officiate. Burial will be held at Colby Memorial Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome from 11:30a.m. until time of services at First United Church of Christ.

Edward was born June 15, 1921 in the town of Colby, the son of Oscar and Bertha (Ebert) Herrmann. He graduated from Colby High School, joined the National Guard and was honorably discharged. On June 1, 1952 Edward married Evelyn Dorfschmidt and for 52 years they enjoyed a loving relationship until her passing on October 20, 2004. They started a successful dairy farming career in the town of Colby which they operated until 1974. As a farmer he practiced sound conservation and environmentally friendly farming and was conscientious of improvements within the dairy herd. They then moved to Dorchester for 4 years, before building their home in the woods that was part of the original farm homestead. Edward started Herrmann's Sugarbush in 1979 which required many long hours of work tapping trees and gathering the sap for cooking. Edward was WI State Tree Farmer of the Year, he enjoyed the time spent outdoors working and cutting down trees. He also enjoyed working on his son-in-law Gary's farm. Edward liked to travel and had been to all 50 states as well as a trip to Taiwan and Hong Kong with a week stop in Hawaii on the way home with his wife. They had four children; Allan (Jeri Shepherd) of Colby, WI; Edward Jr. ( who died as an infant); Penny(Gary) Searer of Colby, WI; and Scott (who passed away in 2009). He has three grandchildren Mindy (Sean) Wagner of Abbotsford, WI ; Mitch (Brittany) Searer of Owen; and Ryan (Amber) Searer of Freedom, WI; and four great-grandchildren. Aliyah Searer, Aubree Searer, Hayden Wagner and Kaylee Searer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Kenneth Herrmann and Clinton Herrmann and two sisters; Ruth Ruprich and Irene Awe. And an infant sister.

Edward was the Number One fan of the Colby Hornets and would travel to all corners of Wisconsin to watch his favorite team play. When Colby built an addition to the High School in 1969 he was asked by Coach Teska to help build the football field. He took his John Deere tractor and a drag and made the field that is still in use today. This along with the first fan of the year award ever given by Colby to him in 1978 were huge sources of pride. Edward was also very proud of his children, grandchildren and lately of his great-grandchildren. He was a very dear man with a charming smile to go along with his blue eyes who loved to talk with anyone who would listen. he will be deeply missed by those who knew him along with his family.

The family would like to thank the staff with Ministry HomeCare Hospice, the staff of Pine Ridge Assisted Living Home, and the Doctors and nurses at St. Joseph's Hospital.
