Brown, Charles H. (17 Sept. 1916 - 17 Dec. 1960)

Charles H. Brown of Stevens Point, age 44, a former resident of Colby, died Saturday at 8:00 P.M. at a hospital in Duluth, Minn., as a result of injuries suffered in an accident early Saturday morning. Brown was the driver of the semi-trailer truck which was struck by a car at the junction of Highway 53 and Washburn County Highway D at Sarona.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday morning in St. Mary’s Catholic church in Colby, Wis., Rev. John B. Pinion officiating, and burial was made in the Colby Catholic cemetery. Four Moland truck drivers and two closest neighbors were pall bearers.

Mr. Brown was born at Loyal on September 17, 1916. He served with the Air Corps during World War II. He married Rita Kriplean, daughter of A. J. Kriplean of Colby, on August 2, 1947. He had been previously employed as a truck driver for the Colby Milling Company before driving truck for the Moland Brothers Trucking Company. Mr. and Mrs. Brown moved to Stevens Point six years ago. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2227.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Rosemary, age nine, and Sharon, age three and one-half years; a twin brother, Harry Brown of Los Angeles, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. John (Jane) Jacobi of Loyal and Mrs. Chick (Mary) Sale of Los Angeles, Calif.

Mr. Brown, being of a congenial and friendly disposition, had many friends in Colby who were sorry to learn of his sudden death. Besides his fine Christian character, he had a splendid reputation as a truck driver. He drove a truck for Moland Brothers 15 years without an accident until the time of his death.
