Halida, Verna Elizabeth (10 Oct. 1924 - 9 Feb. 2009)

Verna E. Halida, 84, of Marshfield, formerly of Lublin, died Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at Golden LivingCenter-Three Oaks in Marshfield.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Polish National Catholic Church in Lublin. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the church Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.

Verna Elizabeth Glende was born Oct. 10, 1924, in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Herbert C. and Wilhelmine "Minnie" (Martin) Glende. She moved with her family to Wisconsin, living in the Dorchester, Colby and Medford areas. Verna was united in marriage to Edward Halida on Jan. 20, 1945, at St. Mary's Polish National Catholic Church in Lublin.

They farmed in Withee until 1963, then moved to Lublin. They later divorced. Verna worked in Thorp, Owen, Abbotsford and Milwaukee, retiring from Milwaukee Executive in 1986, and returning to Lublin. She reunited with Edward, and in 2003, they moved to Marshfield.

Verna is survived by her ex-husband, Edward, of Marshfield; two daughters, Nancy (William) Maas of Phoenix, Ariz., and Joyce Fetting of Marshfield; four sons, John (Edith) of Colby, Walter (Victoria) of Chippewa Falls, Terry (Cheryl) of Chippewa Falls, and Todd (Kristine) of Eau Claire; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Thorp Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
