Gladys A. Kobylarczyk, 79, of Thorp passed away Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Today (Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009) at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig's Catholic Church in Thorp, with the Rev. Keith Apfelbeck officiating. Burial will follow in St. Hedwig's Catholic Cemetery.

Friends may call one hour before services at the church.

Gladys Arlene Sorenson was born April 12, 1929, to Emil and Martha (Twait) Sorenson in Owen. After graduating from Owen High School in 1946, she attended Milwaukee Business Institute, and then she worked in Milwaukee for one year and at Marathon Electric in Wausau for four years. She met her future husband, Ray Kobylarczyk, in 1949, and they were married on May 29, 1952. Together, they farmed in Thorp for 40 years. Ray and Gladys retired in 1992, and they moved to the city of Thorp.

Gladys was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig's Catholic Church and served as secretary and bookkeeper of the parish for more than 20 years. She was past president of the Parish Council of Catholic Women, past president of Thorp Deanery and past president of Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary. Together with her husband, Ray, she served as leader of the Pine Valley 4-H Club for 10 years, during which time they attended the national 4-H leader forum in Washington, D.C., and she served on the Clark County 4-H leader executive board. Gladys's hobbies included flower gardening, bird-watching and especially crocheting, which she learned as a child from her mother.

Gladys is survived by her husband, Ray; two daughters, Sue (Scott) Dodge and Kay (John) Bogumill; and three sons, Ron (Pam) Kobylarczyk, Roger (Elaine) Kobylarczyk and Jerry (Kim) Kobylarczyk. She also is survived by 13 grandchildren, Rochelle (Dodge) Borrell, Ryan and Richard Dodge, Holly and Keith Kobylarczyk, Erin, Jennifer and Emily Kobylarczyk, Kaleigh and Jace Kobylarczyk, and Mitchell, Lauren and Marcus Bogumill; one great-granddaughter, Isabella Rae Borrell; one brother, Harold Sorenson; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Emory Sorenson.
