Meyer, Lillian Mary (12 March 1907 - 2 February 2009)

Lillian Meyer, 101, died Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, at the Neillsville Retirement Center, where she had been a resident for the past five years.

Lillian Mary Ehlers was born March 12, 1907, in the Town of Levis, Clark County, the daughter of John and Mary (Pruka) Ehlers. She graduated from Neillsville in 1926. Lillian was united in marriage to Arthur "Snowball" Meyer Dec. 31, 1930, in Winona, MN.

Lillian taught at a number of rural schools in the Neillsville area, including Sherwood, Carlyle, Riverside, Hillside, Hewettville, Meadowview and Washburn. When she quit regular teaching, she substituted for Neillsville Elementary. She taught school for 23 years. For five years, Lillian and her husband, Snowball, operated a nightclub in Waupaca. They also promoted and operated four different businesses in Neillsville, the last being Snowball’s Bar for 35 years.

Through the years, Lillian experienced many events from horses to jet planes, from telephones to computers, and the Great Depression in the 30s.

Her hobbies and enjoyment came from her family, whom she loved dearly. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking and dancing. She will always be remembered by her grandchildren for her rolled out and frosted Christmas cookies. Working was her passion.

Lillian is survived by two sons, Ronnie (Kathy) Meyer, Black River Falls, and Dale (Mary Ann) Meyer, Neillsville; five grandchildren, Cindy (Tim) Schmidt, Fall Creek, Randy Meyer, Minneapolis, MN, Mark (Mary) Meyer, Owen, Matt (Dawn Ormond) Meyer, Neillsville, and Jane (Brian) Robeson, Marshfield; five great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Ryan and Cole Schmidt and Megan and Emma Robeson; three step-grandsons, Christopher McGuire, West Salem, Jared (Rebecca) McGuire, Arcadia, and Bobby McGuire, Minneapolis, MN; two step-great-grandsons, Carson and Gage McGuire; one sister, Jeanette Braatz, Beaver Dam; one brother, Glenn (Muriel) Ehlers, Brookfield; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, in October of 1963; her parents; and 10 brothers and sisters, Arthur, Rudy, Bill, Paul, Eugene and Irving Ehlers, Minnie Atwood, Helen Hogue, Evelyn Begley Junchen and Dorothy Meyer-Kreier.

Lillian will be sadly missed by all.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.
