Kobylarczyk, Gladys Arlene (12 April 1929 - 6 February 2009)

Gladys A. Kobylarczyk, age 79, of Thorp, passed away on Friday, February 6, 2009, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 10, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Thorp with Rev. Keith Apfelbeck officiating. Burial followed in St. Hedwig’s Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation was held on Monday, February 9, 2009, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Thorp Funeral Home with a 7 p.m. rosary service. Visitation was also held on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at the church.

Gladys Arlene Sorenson was born on April 12, 1929, to Emil and Martha (Twait) Sorenson in Owen, WI. After graduating from Owen High School in 1946, she attended the Milwaukee Business Institute, then worked in Milwaukee for one year, and Marathon Electric in Wausau for four years. She met her future husband, Ray Kobylarczyk, in 1949, and was married on May 29, 1952. Together, they farmed in Thorp for 40 years. Ray and Gladys retired in 1992 and moved to the City of Thorp.

Gladys was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church, and served as secretary and bookkeeper of the parish for over 20 years. She was the past president of the parish Council of Catholic Women, past president of the Thorp Deanery, and past president of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary.

Together with her husband, Ray, she served as leader of the Pine Valley 4-H Club for 10 years, during which time they attended the National 4-H Leader Forum in Washington, D.C. and she served on the Clark County 4-H Leader Executive Board.

Gladys’ hobbies included flower gardening, bird watching, and especially crocheting, which she learned as a child from her mother.

Gladys is survived by her husband, Ray; two daughters: Sue (Scott) Dodge and Kay (John) Bogumill; three sons: Ron (Pam) Kobylarczyk, Roger (Elaine) Kobylarczyk, and Jerry (Kim) Kobylarczyk. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Rochelle (Dodge) Borrell, Ryan and Richard Dodge, Holly and Keith Kobylarczyk, Erin, Jennifer and Emily Kobylarczyk, Kaleigh and Jace Kobylarczyk, Mitchell, Lauren, and Marcus Bogumill; one great-granddaughter, Isabella Rae Borrell; one brother, Harold Sorenson; and many nieces and nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Emory Sorenson.
