Helen Beyer, 85, of Neillsville died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, in the Palliative Care Unit of St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.

Helen Alice Beyer was born July 8, 1923, at home in the Town of Levis, Clark County, the daughter of Adolph and Christina (Dobes) Meier. She was baptized Sept. 21, 1923 and confirmed May 16, 1937, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville.

Prior to marriage she worked as a waitress at the Merchant’s Hotel and later in Mineral Point as her children were older. She was united in marriage to Harold Beyer June 20, 1942, at St. John’s Church. From 1960 until August of 1980, Helen and Harold lived in Stoughton, where she worked as a nurse’s aide and volunteer at the Stoughton Hospital. They returned to Neillsville in 1980, and Helen volunteered at the Memorial Medical Center until her health failed.

Helen was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid. Her hobbies were reading, playing cards and experimenting with gourmet dishes. However, most important in her life were her children and grandchildren. She adored them, and she loved spending time with them.
