Alger, Charles J. (11 August 1950 - 13 February 2009) With Flag

Charles John Alger, age 58, of Shell Lake peacefully went home with his Lord on Friday, February 13, 2009, at Indianhead Medical Center in Shell Lake.

He was born August 11, 1950, in Thorp, WI, to Cyril and Martha (Kobylarczyk) Alger. Chuck graduated from Thorp High School in 1968. Following graduation, he joined he United States Navy, serving from 1968 to 1972 during the Vietnam War. He attended Chippewa Valley Technical College. He worked for a year in Montana before moving back to Thorp to farm.

On August 18, 1984, he married the love of his life, Lorraine Knoop. Chuck and Lorraine resided in the Shell Lake area where they raised three children. Chuck worked in construction and mason work until Thanksgiving 1991 when he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Through all the medical trials over the years, Chuck never let it affect his positive outlook on life. Chuck was a member of Lake Park Alliance Church where he enjoyed worshipping with his family. Above all, he enjoyed and placed great importance on his relationship with the Lord. Chuck’s presence in this world was a gift to all those fortunate to know him and his spirit will live on in each of us.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine, of Shell Lake; three daughters: Katrina (David) Anderson of Duluth, Gabriel and Mary Alger both of Shell Lake; six brothers: Dan (Patty) Alger of Edina, MN, Arnold Alger of Semminish, (Snohomish?), WA, Gary Alger of Winnetka, IL, Neil (Pat) Alger of Thorp, Patrick (Ani) Alger of Los Angeles, and John Alger, of Hudson; his mother, Martha Alger of Thorp, three sisters: Karen (Jerry) Hadzima of Coon Rapids, MN, Holly (Jamal) Houmaoui of Washington, D.C. and Alisha (Mike) Nesvacil of White Bear Lake, MN; and by many nieces and nephews.

Chuck was preceded in death by his father, Cyril Alger.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 16, 2009, at Lake Park Alliance Church - Shell Lake with Rev. Franklin Knoop officiating. Burial was in Lake View Cemetery - Hertel.

Pallbearers were Gabriel Alger, Paul Knoop, Keith Mechtel, Jonathan Knoop, Cole Nesvacil and Craig Alger.
