Maki, Maria (Marriage - 23 December 1950)

Bethany Lutheran Church at Owen was the scene of the wedding on December 23, of Elizabeth J. Maki, daughter of Mrs. Maria Maki of Withee, and Robert Kessel, son of Mrs. Ruth Kessel of Phillips.

The double ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. Viljo Puotinen. Both the house and the church were decorated in the Christmas theme. About 100 guests were present.

The bride was attired in a beige gabardine suit with pink accessories. She carried a bouquet of pink roses. Her only attendant was Miss Kathryn Peterson.

Robert Maki and George Maki were ushers with Norman Dahlie being the groom’s attendant.

Miss Mary Juetten of Menomonee, Mich., sang "O Promise Me" and "Because", Mrs. Viljo Puotinen also sang a Finnish Wedding song. Mrs. George Maki, Edgar, played Christmas music preceding the ceremony and accompanied the singers.

A reception followed the ceremony at the church parlors.

The young couple spent their honeymoon in southern Wisconsin.

The new Mrs. Kessel is a graduate of Central State Teachers College at Stevens Point and has been employed as a home demonstration agent for Price County.

The groom is a graduate of Whitewater State Teacher’s College and is attending the University of Wisconsin.
