PRENTICE -- Thomas J. Ovans, Prentice, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, at St. Joseph's Hospital Marshfield, at the age of 72. He was born Oct. 9, 1926, in Abbottsford, the son of James and Lucille (Boyle) Ovans.
He spent his early life and schooling in the Abbottsford and Colby area. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II from 1943 to 1945 and then again in the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1952. He was married to Marilyn Groh on Oct. 29, 1949, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Following their marriage they spent most of their life in the Milwaukee area. He was employed by the Milwaukee Park Department for over 22 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Church while in Milwaukee, and the Southern Price County VFW Post No. 8491 in Prentice.
He is survived by two sons: Michael F., Milwaukee, and Gerald, Prentice; a grandson: Christopher; two brothers; John (Phyllis) Spencer, and George, Gresham; and three sisters: Mary (Karl) Ewan, Rhinelander, Helen Werner, Milwaukee, and Lucille Ward, Gresham. He was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn on April 1, 1998, an infant daughter Jean Marie, his parents; and two brothers: James and Bill Ovans.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Prentice, with Fr. John Slowey officiating.
Interment will be in the Prentice Cemetery, Prentice, with Military Honors by the Southern Price County VFW Post No. 8491.
Visitation will be after 9:30 a.m. on Monday at the Heindl Funeral Home, Prentice until the hour of the service.
