Irve Neal Klieforth, age 78 years, a life long resident of Abbotsford, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2009, in the emergency department at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.

Irve was born March 30, 1930, to Clarence and Rose (Baronsky) in the town of Holton in Marathon County.

He attended Pickard Elementary School then transferred to Abbotsford Elementary to complete his grade school years. Irve then went on to graduate from Abbotsford High School.

Following his schooling Irve went to work at his father’s gas station known as "Cliff’s" in Abbotsford and also drove school bus for the bus company owned by his father Clarence.

He later joined the U.S. Army in 1950 and was assigned to the 6th Armored Division. He returned to Abbotsford where he married the former Doris Fierke on Aug. 3, 1951.

Following his honorable discharge from the Army in 1952, he rejoined his father’s service station and continued to work there until he purchased "Cliff’s" from his father in 1964 and became owner/operator. He remained in ownership of "Cliff’s until it was purchased by his son Bruce in January 1993, but continued to work for his son until retiring from the service station in 1997. Irve however did continue to check on the day to day operations and made a point to stop in to the service station to offer his help and advice to anyone who needed either one or both.

Irve was an avid bowler and loved fishing and watching sports programs especially the Brewers, the Packers and the Badgers. Irve was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church and a former member of the Abbotsford American Legion Post #139.

He is further survived by 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; one brother, Chuck (Gloria) Klieforth of Neillsville; along with many other relatives and friends.

Irve was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Dale and Neal.

Visitation was from 9 a.m. until time of service on Saturday at the church in Abbotsford, Wis. Burial followed in Abbotsford Public Cemetery with military rites being conducted.

Serving as his pallbearers were Tyler, Michael and Mitchell Klieforth, Dustin and Travis Schauer and David Loucks.
