COLBY -- Michael Kaplanek, 45, died Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at his home in Colby, Wis.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Maurina Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford, Wis.

COLBY -- Michael E. Kaplanek, 45, died March 15, 2009, at his home in Colby of natural causes.

Friends may call at the Maurina Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.

Michael was born July 28, 1963, at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas, to James Sr. and Charlotte Kaplanek. He grew up in Milwaukee and later lived in Altoona. Michael is a 1982 graduate of Altoona High School. He later joined the Army Reserve and was a member of the 387th Engineer Battalion as a combat engineer, based in Eau Claire. Michael married Holly Hardwick of Altoona in 1982. They had a son, Michael. Later, he married Pam Kunkel of Thorp, and they had a son, Cory, and a daughter, Jessica.

He was currently employed at Community Care of Central Wisconsin in Marshfield.

Michael is survived by two sons, Michael Wavland of Eau Claire and Cory Michael Kaplanek of Colby; a daughter, Jessica Lee Kaplanek of Colby; his mother, Charlotte (Ron) Vold of Eau Claire; brothers, James (Jodie) of Orfordville, Marty (Carol) Bastress of Fond du Lac and John of Texas; and a sister, Kim, of Pepin.
