Christie, Edith (2 Sept. 1893 - 15 Sept. 1941)

Mrs. Phil Christie died of complications at the Neillsville Hospital, Monday evening, at 6:30. Mrs. Christie had been in poor health the past year and on May 13th underwent an operation at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield. After her discharge from there she spent much of the intervening time at Greenwood at the home of her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Christie. Two weeks ago she was taken to the Neillsville Hospital.

The body lay in state at the Stabnow Funeral Home, Greenwood, until Thursday when it was taken to the Christie home at Greenwood. Funeral services were conducted there followed by services in the Methodist church at 2 o’clock. The Rev. Abbott officiated. Internment was made in the Greenwood cemetery.

Mrs. Christie was born Edith Atkins, Sept. 2, 1893 in the Town of Weston. She grew to womanhood there and on April 15, 1915 was married to Phil Christie at Marshfield. For five years they made their home in the Town of Weston and then moved to Greenwood where they resided for eleven years after which they moved to Abbotsford, Wis.

Mrs. Christie was an active member of the Ladies’ Home Mission and the Sunday School Mission, both organizations of the Presbyterian church. Mrs. Christie had acted as hostess to the Ladies’ Home Mission shortly before entering St. Joseph’s Hospital in the spring.

Surviving her are her husband, Phil Christie, Abbotsford; her mother, Mrs. Jennie Atkins, her sister, Mrs. Hugh Christie, Greenwood; three brothers, Leon, Durand; Clifford, Drummond, Mont., and George, Town of Weston.

Funeral services for Mrs. Phil Christie were held at Greenwood last Thursday afternoon at the Methodist Church and internment was made in the Greenwood cemetery.

The pallbearers were Louis Schorer, Abbotsford; Leo Stanley, Earl Tompkins, Arthur, Gerald and James Syth, all of Greenwood.
