Bortz, Lorraine (17 DEC 1949)

Now residing on a farm near the city (Owen, Clark Co., Wis.) are Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Obernberger, who were married at Butternut, Wis. on Saturday, Dec. 17, 1949. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Dickie in St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Appearing very attractive wearing a lovely slipper satin gown, the bride approached the altar on the arm of her father, Herman Bortz, who gave her in marriage. Her gown was enhanced with a tightly fitted bodice and a high neckline trimmed with lace, a long train and a fingertip veil trimmed with scalloped lace. The sleeves were of long design with a lace trip. Her headpiece was of orange blossoms. She carried a bridal bouquet of red roses, caught in a white satin ribbon.

Maid of honor, Lois Bortz, sister of the bride, wore a gown of rayon taffeta in gold. Bridesmaids, Lorna Obernberger and Wynette Obernberger, sisters of the groom, chose gowns of rayon taffeta of a dark aqua color. All wore matching headpieces and carried colonial styled bouquets of white carnations on doilies.

Attending the bridegroom was Ted Obernberger, brother of the groom. Both wore dark pin stripe business suits. Serving as ushers were Carl Bortz, Chicago, brother of the bride, and Kenneth Roohr, Owen, a close friend of the young couple. During the ceremony Miss Betty Bogart sang two vocal selections, "The Lord’s Prayer" and "Because."

Mrs. Bortz is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Bortz of Butternut. She is a graduate of the Butternut school system, as well as the Marvel School of Beauty Culture. For the past several years she has been employed in Milwaukee and Chicago.

Mr. Obernberger is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Obernberger, Owen. A graduate of the Dorchester school system he later served for two years in the Unisted States navy. Since his discharge he has been engaged in the occupation of farming.

Among the out of town guests attending the ceremony were: Mrs. Wm. Dirrigle, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Chris Brunner, Curtiss; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Ludwig, Stetsonville; Pfc. Elden Bortz, now stationed in Wyoming, and S. Sgt. Emil Szyznik and family of St. Louis, Mo.
