Sauter, Christ (16 Sept. 1844 - 17 Oct. 1943)

Funeral services for Christ Sauter, 99, who died Sunday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Adolph Kalepp, were held Wednesday.

The body lay in state at the Zink Funeral Home until Tuesday afternoon, when it was taken to Dorchester to the home of his son, Ed Sauter where services were held at 1:30 Wednesday afternoon. Services at Peace Evangelical church, were held at 2:00 o’clock after which internment was made in the family plot in the Memorial cemetery at Dorchester, Wis. The Rev. G. E. Pauloweit officiated at the rites.

The pallbearers were six grand-sons: Donald and Martin Sauter, Clifford Marcotte, Harold and Clarence Kalepp and Arthur Weideman.

Six granddaughters carried the flowers: Mrs. Alvah Messer, Mrs. Elvin Underwood, Misses Alice Kalepp, Arlene Weideman, Dorothy Marcotte and Geraldine Sauter.

Among those from away who attended the funeral were Mrs. Otto Sauter, a daughter-in-law, Miss Geraldine Sauter, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Marcotte, Miss Dorothy Marcotte and Mr. and Mrs. John Leopold, Phillips; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sauter, Tomahawk; Mr. and Mrs. Martin Sauter, Marathon; Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Johnson and son, Larry, Green Bay; Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Marcotte, Stetsonville; Miss Elizabeth Lang and Mr. and Mrs. William Cliver, and Mrs. Louis Bender, Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Messer, Spencer; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Bender, Auburndale.

Mr. Sauter was born in Germany Sept. 16, 1844 and came to the United States in 1882 settling in St. Paul. Two years later he moved to a farm one and one-fourth miles south of Dorchester where he lived until moving to the village of Dorchester in 1913. Nine years ago he sold his town home and made his home with his children until the past two years which he spent entirely in Abbotsford at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Adolph Kalepp.

His marriage to Frances Dangel took place in Wertenberg, Germany, in 1873. Fourteen children were born to this union, three having died in infancy.

Mr. Sauter was preceded in death by his wife on Nov. 29, 1930 and seven children, three in infancy and four adults: Mrs. Joe (Louise) Johnson, Mrs. Fred (Mary) Lueddecke, and Otto and Joseph Sauter.

Surviving are seven children, Mrs. Charles Sauter, Tomahawk; August Sauter, Dorchester; Mrs. Adolph (Minnie) Kalepp, Abbotsford; Albert and Ed Sauter, both of Dorchester; Mrs. Herbert (Tillie) Weideman, Dorchester; and Mrs. Victor (Alma) Marcotte, Phillips. Also surviving are 32 grandchildren and 42 great grand-children.

Four of his grandsons are in the service. Norman Kalepp, in the Navy, at Rhode Island; Harry and Laverne Sauter in California, and Harvey Weideman, in Sicily.
