Kronschnabl, Herman L. (1879? - 8 Nov. 1943)

Funeral services were conducted last Thursday morning at 9:00 o’clock at St. Joseph’s Catholic church at Crandon for Herman L. Kronschnabl, 64, formerly of Dorchester and Abbotsford, and for 18 years editor of the Forest Republican weekly newspaper, who died Monday morning at River Pines Sanatorium, Stevens Point, after a five months’ illness.

The Rev. George Kiefer officiated at the rites, and burial took place in the Catholic cemetery at Dorchester, Wis.

Mr. Kronschnabl had been active in county and state politics for many years. In 1935 he was elected to the state legislature as a member of the first Progressive party and served in the assembly for Florence, Forest and Oneida counties in 1936 and 1937. He also had been a member of the Forest County Board of Supervisors and was postmaster in Dorchester from 1916 to 1925.

He had operated the Montello Express newspaper from May, 1940, until March 1, of this year, when he returned to Crandon after residing in Montello for one year. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Knights of Columbus.

Mr. Kronschnabl was born in Germany, the son of the late Joseph and Mary Knonschnabl. At the age of two years he came to America with his parents and they settled on a farm near Dorchester in Clark county. He married Amanda Laughlin, formerly of Marshfield, and they resided in Dorchester until 1925, except for two years when he published a newspaper at Abbotsford in 1913 and 1914. He had previously been publisher of the Dorchester Clarion. In June, 1925, he bought the Forest Republican at Crandon.

Surviving besides his widow are two daughters, Marie, at home and Mrs. Anton Ringsmuth, Wakefield, Mich.; a son, Jack Kronschnabl, Crandon; a brother, George, Milwaukee; and two grandchildren. An infant son, George, preceded him in death.
