DeMert, Ardes (Marriage - 10 November 1951)

Wedding vows were exchanged Saturday, November 10, by Miss Ardes DeMert and Frederick Seelow. The Rev. Alfred Schewe performed the double ring ceremony in the St. John’s Lutheran Church before an altar banked with flowers. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter DeMert and the groom, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Seelow.

The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, chose a gown of the traditional white satin with a full length train. Her finger tip veil fell from a beaded head dress and she carried a bridal bouquet of red roses and white chrysanthemums.

Miss Kathleen DeMert, the maid of honor, was attired in a gold satin gown. Mrs. Herman Carl and Mrs. Darwin DeMert as bridesmaids wore dresses of lavender and green satin respectively they carried colonial bouquets.

Wendell Elmhorst acted as best man and Herman Carl and Darwin DeMert were groomsmen. Leonard DeMert and Kenneth Seelow ushered. Victor Lehman accompanied the church choir as they sang during the ceremony.

The bride’s mother was attired in a black sheer dress with red accessories and a red corsage. The groom’s mother was dressed in blue with matching accessories and a red corsage.

A reception for 200 guests was held at the Legion Memorial Hall from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. The place was artistically decorated with streamers to match the attendants’ gowns.

Following a wedding trip in the south the young couple will be at home on the DeMert farm on Route 4.

The bride and groom both attended Neillsville High School. The groom also took a short course at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He is now employed at the Al Breseman Cheese Factory near Granton.

Guests from out of town attending the wedding included Pfc. Russell Seelow of Camp Atterbury, Ind., Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Battist, Mrs. Eugene Battist, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Battist and son, all of Waterloo, Ia., Mr. and Mrs. Donald Syth of Eau Claire, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Bulgrin, Miss Marjorie DeMert of Marshfield, Leonard DeMert of Footville, Mr. and Mrs. Darwin DeMert and daughters, Janice, Patricia, Charlotte Linda of South Milwaukee, Gloria Zink of Cudahy, Mr. and Mrs. Al Breseman and family of Granton, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Lamond and family, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Belter, Lauren Hales and family, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Henninger, all of Granton, and Mr. and Mrs. Gary Schmidt of Colby, Wis.
