Glamann, Violet M. (Gumz) (June 10, 1922 - March 25, 2009)

Violet M Glamann, age 86, of Dorchester, Wisconsin died peacefully with her family by her side at Aspirus Hospice House in Wausau on March 25, 2009.

Violet Marie Gumz was born on June 10, 1922 in Athens WI. She attended the Athens and Wausau area schools. On September 10, 1940, she married Alvin Meyer at Saint Louis Catholic Church in Dorchester, Wis. Together, they had five children. She and her husband were involved in four Meyer businesses in Dorchester, Wis. Alvin died on March 5, 1975 at the age of 55.

She was a member of Saint Louis Parish and the Ladies’ Altar Society. She was also a charter member of the Lady Foresters, as well as belonging to the Green Acres Homemakers’ Club.

On October 21, 1988, she was married to Harvey Glamann at Saint Louis Catholic Church in Dorchester by the Reverend Father Donald Berg and the Reverend Warren Behling. She then became a member of the Ladies’ VFW of Medford and the American Legion Leach and Paulson Post of Dorchester, Wis. They belonged to the Po.L.K.of A Club and were crowned prince and princess in 1989-90. She loved to dance (especially to polka music), play cards, cook and bake. She also loved gardening, ceramics, and traveling. Her family meant the world to her and was her main priority in life.

Violet will be dearly missed by her husband, Harvey Glamann, her five children: a daughter, Judy Meyer (Ed Spletter), and four sons, Donald (Jane) Meyer, Larry (Jackie) Meyer, Dale (Dora) Meyer, and Tim Meyer M.D., six step sons, Michael (Peggy) Glamann, Wayne (Sandy) Glamann, Mark (Diane) Glamann, Gary Glamann, Duane Glamann, and Ronald (Rochelle) Glamann. She is further survived by 14 Grandchildren, 11 Step Grandchildren, 26 Great Grandchildren and 5 Step Great Grandchildren.

Violet was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Alvin Meyer, one sister, Clara Dallman, and five brothers, Martin, Eldred, Raymond, Clarence, and Frank Gumz.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, March 31 at Saint Louis Catholic Church, Dorchester, beginning at 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Father Benjamin Franklin and Father Donald Berg presiding.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Mark Underwood, Steve Meyer, Troy Meyer, Scott Meyer, Justin Meyer, Chad Meyer, Jeff Meyer, Mitchell Underwood, Zach Meyer and Trevor Meyer. Inurnment will take place in the Dorchester Cemetery at a later date. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home of Abbotsford assisted the family with her arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, anyone who wishes, may make a contribution payable to the VIOLET GLAMANN MEMORIAL FUND.
