Mehnert, Florence (Marriage - 25 Feb. 1945)

The following account of the wedding of Miss Florence Mehnert, former Abbotsford teacher, was taken from the Ironwood Daily Globe, of Monday, Feb. 25.

Miss Florence Anne Mehnert became the bride of William Charles Schaus at 4:30 o’clock Sunday at a beautiful ceremony performed at St. Luke’s Lutheran church in Ironwood. The Rev. Victor Brandt, son of Rev. and Mrs. J. Brandt, (of Dorchester) officiated at the service. The church altars were beautifully decorated with white and pink carnations and gladiolas.

Miss Mary Hambley played Lohengrin’s Wedding March. Mrs. John Dahl sang "O Perfect Love" and "The Lord’s Prayer."

The bride chose a floor length gown of eggshell faille taffeta with sweetheart neck line. She wore a fingertip veil of tulle eggshell and carried a white prayer book with a single white orchid.

Miss Margaret Schaus, sister of the groom, was maid of honor. She was attired in a floor length gown of pale pink chiffon with a high, round neckline and full skirt.

She carried a colonial bouquet of pink and white carnations with pinochio roses. Misses Esther Dwyer and Gretchen Sauter, the bridesmaids, wore dresses and carried bouquets similar to those of the maid of honor.

Flower girls were Helen Schroeder and Kathleen McKevitt. Both were dressed in pink net.

Robert Schauss, brother of the groom, was the best man. Jack Mehnert, the bride’s brother, and Herbert Miller, of St. Louis, ushered.

Before the ceremony a dinner was served at the St. James hotel for immediate relatives and the wedding party. After the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride for approximately 150 guests.

Miss Mehnert, who is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mehnert, Hurley, had been employed as a home making instructor in the Ishpeming high school. The groom, son of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Schaus, Milwaukee, is with the United States Coast Guard.
