Ecke, Lester F. (15 Sept. 1910 - 19 July 1991)

Lester F. (Les) Ecke, 80, a Marshfield resident, died at 8:50 a.m. Friday at the Marshfield Living Center where he had been a resident since March 27, 1990.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Rembs/Kundinger Chapel with the Rev. Robert J. Jacobs of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. William A. Allen will be the soloist, and Maldon Plank will be the organist.

Burial, with military rites by American Legion Post No. 54, will be in Hillside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Donald Heintz, Clem Beining, Jesse Meacham, Pete Stangl, Kenneth Williams and Eugene M. Greenwood.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Sunday and again Monday until service time at the funeral chapel.

He was born Sept. 15, 1910, in Valders, to the late Frederick and Frances (Krause) Ecke. He moved as a child with his parents from Valders to Curtiss. He attended Curtiss and Abbotsford schools. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater of operations.

He married Clara A. Steffen Sept. 15, 1935, in Winona, Minn. She died Feb. 12, 1989.

After his education, he was employed in Neillsville and later in Marshfield. After his marriage, he and his wife owned and operated Les & Clara’s Bar in Marshfield. They operated the business for 27 years until retirement. They continued to reside in Marshfield after retirement.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1866 and American Legion Post No. 54.

Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Violet Johnson and Mrs. Geri Mittlestadt, both of Marshfield.

He was also predeceased by one sister and one brother.
