William R. Wollum

William "Bill" R. Wollum, 87, a resident of Lakeview Estates, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008, at Lakeview Assisted Living.

He was born on March 11, 1921, in St. Paul, MN, the son of Henry and Hazel Brown Wollum.

Bill grew up in Owen, WI, graduating from Owen High School in 1939. He attended Eau Claire State College for two years.

Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II and served as a 2nd lieutenant in the United States and Germany.

On April 19, 1943, he married Jean M. Turney, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 31, 2007, after almost 65 years of marriage.

He finished his education at UW-Madison, graduating with a B.B.A. in 1947. Bill and his father owned and operated the Owen Canning Corp. until 1957. He was plant manager for Cranberry Products, Inc., in Eagle River until 1980. He and his wife, Jean, moved to Fond du Lac, WI, in 2001.

Survivors include one daughter, B.J. (Dan) Belzer, St. Peter; one son, Joel (Nancy) Wollum, Middlebury, VT; four grandchildren, Kim (Joe) Hughes, Fond du Lac, Kurt (Lisa) Belzer, Herndon, VA, Rachel Wollum, Middlebury, VT, and Emma Wollum, Cardiff, Wales; and one great-grandchild, AlliJo Hughes.

He is further survived by one sister, Judy Sabol, Carol Stream, IL; and one brother, Henry (Odile) Wollum, Louisville, CO.

Services: A memorial service will be held at Lakeview Estates, 517 Luco Road, Fond du Lac, on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, at noon. Cremation has taken place.

Memorials may be directed to St. Agnes Hospice Home of Hope.

The family is grateful to the staff at Lakeview Estates for their kindness and friendship.
