Maki, Elizabeth (23 DEC 1950)

Amid a beautiful Christmas theme setting, Miss Elizabeth Maki, daughter of Mrs. Nestor Maki, Withee (Clark Co., Wis.), exchanged the holy vows of wedlock with Mr. Robert Kessel, son of Mrs. Ruth Kessel, Phillips. The double ring ceremony was performed at two-thirty o’clock Saturday afternoon, Dec. 23rd, 1950 in the Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, Owen, with Rev. Viljo Puotinen officiating.

The bride wearing a beige suit with pink accessories and a corsage of pink roses, was given in marriage by her brother, William. She was attended by Miss Kathryn Peterson who wore a suit of aqua gabardine with white accessories and a corsage of yellow roses.

The bridegroom was attended by Norman Dahlie, while Robert and Georg Maki, brothers of the bride, served as ushers.

Preceding the ceremony, Mrs. George Maki, Edgar, Wis., presided at the organ playing several Christmas selections. During the ceremony Miss Mary Juetten sang "O Promise Me" and Mrs. Viljo Puotinen sang a Finnish wedding song.

Immediately after the service a reception was held for 150 guests in the church parlors which were also appropriately and beautifully decorated with a Christmas theme. Later the couple left on a wedding trip through southern Wisconsin.

The bride is a graduate of the Owen High School with the class of 1944. In 1948 she graduated from the Central State Teachers College at Stevens Point and for a year taught home economics in the Owen school system, resigning her position here to accept the position of county home agent in Price County at Phillips, Wis.

Mr. Kessel is a graduate of the Phillips school system and of Whitewater State Teachers College. He taught a couple of years at Phillips, but is now doing post-graduate work at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
