Werner, Hilbert "Hip" O. (22 AUG 1926 - 16 NOV 2013)

Hilbert "Hip" O. Werner, 87, Stratford, originally from Edgar, died Saturday, November 16, 2013, at St. Joseph Hospital, Marshfield.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at St. John Lutheran Church ELCA, W1000 Highway N, Edgar. Rev. Gail Sowell will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church.

Hilbert "Hip" O. Werner, 87, Stratford, originally from Edgar, died Saturday, November 16, 2013 at St. Joseph Hospital, Marshfield.

He was born August 22, 1926 in the Township of Wien, son of the late Frank and Ella (Kragenbrink) Werner. On September 3, 1949, he married Marion Bornowski at St. John Lutheran Church (High Steeple), Edgar. She survives.

Hilbert was a dairy farmer in the Edgar area his entire life. He was born and raised on his parents family farm and eventually raised his six children on the same farm. In August, 1992, Hilbert and Marion were awarded the Century Farmer Award. This honor is given to families whose farm has been in the same family for 100 consecutive years.

Hilbert and Marion retired from farming in 1997, at this time they moved to Fenwood and then eventually moved to Stratford. Hilbert was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church ELCA (Hwy N) and has always been an active member of the church.

Among his favorite pastimes, he enjoyed playing cards, listening to polka music, fishing, traveling with his wife Marion and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include, his wife of 64 years, Marion Werner, Stratford, six children, Barb Krampien (Gary Schultz) Athens, Judy (David) Weber, Schofield, Leon (Mary Jo) Werner, Edgar, Rudy (JoAnn) Werner, Marshfield, Larry (Terri) Werner, Glen Burnie, MD and Scott (Sara) Werner, Kronenwetter.

Thirteen Grandchildren, Jason (Monica) Krampien, Des Moines, IA, Jaclyn Krampien (Kirk Rux), Ringle, Shawn (Mandy) Schnelle, Edgar, Greg Werner, Chicago, IL, Katie Jo Werner (Chad Feldshau), Stevens Point, Cory (Jim) Wiesman, Stratford, Stacey (Lee) Spindler, Stratford, Amy (Ryan) Cournoyer, Stratford, Brendan (Elayna O'Toole) Werner, Bellevue, NE, Cody Werner, Fairbanks AK, Jonathan Werner, Glen Burnie, MD, Christopher Werner, Oshkosh and Grant Werner, Kronenwetter; 17 Great-Grandchildren; sister and brother in laws, Marie and Jarold Landwehr, Stratford, Bernice and LeRoy Grosskreutz, Wausau, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Marie; and two other siblings, Esther Borchardt and Ervin Werner.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at St. John Lutheran Church ELCA, W1000 Highway N, Edgar. Rev. Gail Sowell will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
