Bogaard, Robert W. (August 15, 1921 - April 29, 2009)

Robert W. Bogaard, 87, Hopkins, Minn., died Wednesday, April 29.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, May 23 at 11 a.m. at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Abbotsford, Wis. Interment will be at Abbotsford City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

Robert Bogaard was born August 15, 1921. On December 23, 1942 he married Helen who survives.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Abbotsford's 173rd Infantry Unit on their campaign from Normandy to Salzburg, Austria. He continued in the National Guard, completing 33 years of service. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Abbotsford and Dorchester for 25 years.

He was a lifetime member of the Abbotsford VFW.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, William (Susan) of Wisconsin Rapids and Tom (Susan) of Excelsior, Minn.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Kuwitzky; and two brothers, Alex and Clem.
