Kernz, Tony W. (3 March 1924 - 22 May 2009)

Tony W. Kernz, 85, of Neillsville died Friday, May 22, 2009, at St. Joseph’s Hospital Palliative Care in Marshfield.

Tony was born March 3, 1924, in Rauch, MN to Joseph and Mary (Kovach) Kernz. He attended Washington and Oriole grade schools in Neillsville. He farmed with his father as a young man.

In 1948, he married Deloris Holub in Neillsville and later divorced. He farmed in Town of York and in Alma Center. He later moved to Waunakee, where he did maintenance work, returning to Neillsville in the 1970s where he worked at Nelson Muffler, Berg Equipment, the Green Thumb and Weatherization programs of Clark County and the city of Neillsville. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Neillsville.

He married Arlene Wedekind Nov. 3, 1979, in Neillsville.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene; a son, Lawrence, St. Louis, MO; a daughter, Debra (Tom) Jeffrey of Paradise Valley, AZ; six grandchildren, Kyle, Carly, Megan and Conner Jeffrey of Paradise Valley, AZ, Kristine Kernz, Lake Mills, and Larry Kernz, Jr. El Paso, TX; a brother, Rudy (Edith) Kernz of Lecanto, FL; a sister-in-law, Rica Kernz, Marshfield; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Philip and Joseph Jr.

Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Neillsville, with Rev. Woodrow Pace officiating and music by organist Ron Resong. Visitation was held Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Buchanan Funeral Home, Neillsville. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Felix Kotcon, William Kernz, Daniel Miller, Eugene Embke, John Langton and Gary Miller.

Buchanan Funeral Home, Neillsville, assisted the family with arrangements.
