Boxrucker, Louis R. (10 Nov. 1917 - 28 May 2009)

DORCHESTER -- Louis R. Boxrucker, 91, of Dorchester, died Thursday, May 28, 2009, at Medford Memorial Hospital.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, June 1, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Dorchester, Wis. The Rev. Benjamin Franklin will officiate.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 31, at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Dorchester and again Monday at the church in Dorchester from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home in Dorchester, Wis. Interment will be at Dorchester Memorial Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Boxrucker-Berry American Legion Post 519 of Stetsonville.

Louis was born on Nov. 10, 1917, in the town of Little Black, a son of John and Mary (Pueschner) Boxrucker. Louis went to school at Liberty grade school in Little Black, and attended one year at St. Louis Parochial School in Dorchester, Wis. In 1940, he joined the U.S. Navy for what Louis called a six-year "hitch." He was assigned to a Navy Air Patrol Squadron stationed in Bermuda but traveled to many parts of the world during his military service. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1946 as a chief petty officer.

He returned to his parents' farm to help them and later spent two years in North Dakota as a welder. On Nov. 24, 1948, Louis was united in holy matrimony to Hilda Wilke at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford. In 1950, Louis bought the farm from his parents and continued to farm for 30 years.

Louis enjoyed fishing, traveling in the U.S. and Canada, and playing cards. Louis was in many ways self-taught because of his love of books and reading. He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Dorchester, the Boxrucker-Berry American Legion Post 519 of Stetsonville and was a former officer of the Catholic Family Insurance Co.

Louis is lovingly survived by his wife, Hilda of Dorchester; children, Kathleen Rau of Phillips, Karen Boxrucker of Orlando, Fla., Diane (Bill) Freiboth of Eau Claire, and Mary (Blaine) Kuchmichel of Wausau; a brother, Arthur (Celine) Boxrucker of Prairie du Chien; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He is predeceased by his parents; a son, Thomas; a sister, Helen Langteau; and his twin brother, Lawrence Boxrucker.
