Abbotsford, Wis. - St. Bernard’s Catholic (First Communion - 6 June 1948)

First Holy Communion

On Sunday, June 6, the following 12 children received their first Holy Communion in St. Bernard’s Catholic church at the 8:00 o’clock Mass, with the Rev. F. J. Brockman officiating:

Larry Rueden, Bobby Ellis, Bobby Hartzell, David Rueden, Judith Zink, Judith Van Dreel, Bernard Huss, Patsy Dohm, Janet Schiferl, Lynette Hoffman, Judith Switlick, Joanne Brecke.

The following flower girls and boys, carrying nosegay bouquets of lilies of the valley, led the first Communicants to the altar:

David Weetz, Karen Marie Feala, Richard Ellis and Kathryn Zink.

After the Mass, the Communicants were enrolled in the Scapular of Our Lady.

During the Mass, the girls of the upper division in the vacation school sang hymns.

For the occasion the altars were beautifully decorated with lighted candles, gold lace and a profusion of iris, bridal wreath, and bleeding hearts.
