Schoenlaub, Helen G. (20 JAN 1877 - 13 DEC 1953)

Miss Helen G. Schoenlaub, 76, a retired Fond du Lac educator, a former Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) high school teacher and niece of the late Henry Hudson, died at 6 a.m. Sunday at St. Agnes Hospital, where she had been a patient since sustaining a stroke several days ago. She lived at 40 Fifth St.

Miss Schoenlaub’s brother, Paul Schoenlaub, a retired Marine major, died Friday at his home at Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., of a heart attack as he was preparing to fly to Fond du Lac, after being notified of her critical illness. He is being buried in the south.

Daughter of the late Louis and Hannah Riley Schoenlaub, Helen Schoenlaub was born in Fond du Lac Jan. 20, 1877. Prior to her retirement in 1943, she had taught in the elementary schools in Fond du Lac since 1901. She had served as principal of both the former Grant school and Edward S. Bragg school. She was principal of the latter institution when she retired.

Surviving are a brother, Addis, Cincinnati. Preceding Miss Schoenlaub in death, besides her parents and brother, Paul, were two other brothers, John and Louis, and a former sister, Mrs. R. J. Garvey, the former Florence Schoenlaub.

Funeral services were held this morning, Wednesday at 8:45 a.m. at the Zacherl Funeral Home, where the body lay in state after 7 p.m. and at 9:15 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.
