Berger, William #2 (7 OCT 1865 - 21 OCT 1909)

William Berger died last Thursday at his home south of town (Neillsville, Clark Co., Wis.), cancer of the stomach being the cause of his death.  Mr. Berger was born in Russia, Germany on Oct. 7, 1865, and came to this country in 1878 with his parents who settled in Dodge County, Wis.  Mr. Berger Sr. being a mason in trade.  In 1888 he was married to Augusta Krueger and to this union five children were born.  The children are Martha, Ester, Arthur, Walter and Paul.  Two brothers and four sisters also survive him.  Rev. G. H. Berger of Forestville, Wm. Berger of Neillsville, Mrs. Wm. Hofemeister of Watertown, Mrs. Frank Welles, Mrs. John Drews and Mrs. Emil Werth of Ashippun.  His aged parents, Mr. and Mrs. Berger of Ashippun also survive him.  All were present at the funeral with the exception of his mother and sister, Mrs. Werth, his bother being an invalid.

In 1900 Mr. Berger moved to Neillsville, and during his residence here has demonstrated himself as a painstaking, honorable gentleman.  In all his married life, he never knew what it was to be without sickness, his wife being an invalid and he himself being in ill health most of the time, but all his trials and tribulations he bore with remarkable fortitude.

The funeral was held Monday afternoon at 1 o’clock at the home and 2 o’clock at the Lutheran Church, Rev. Brandt officiating.  Interment was made in the Neillsville Cemetery.
