Head, Alanson (MAR 1856 - 1 NOV 1909)

Died, Nov. 1, 1909, Alanson Head, aged 53 years, 7 months.  Mr. Head was born at Cataract, Monroe County, Wis., and made his home with his brother, Orlando.  He attended school here (Neillsville, Clark Co., Wis.) for a time, then went back to Monroe County, later returning here.  At one time he lived in Dakota, having taken up a claim there, and was also at one time a resident of Colorado.  He then came back to Clark County and made his home with his sister, Mrs. H. C. Walker at Shortville, until her death, and since that time he has been working for various farmers.  Shortly before his death her worked for Frank McPherson, and while at work there was taken with the sickness that later cause his death.  Mr. Head was a man of high integrity and of a retiring disposition.  This latter trait was the cause of a deep regret to his brother and other friends and relatives, for when he was taken sick he felt that he was likely to make a little extra trouble to his friends and rather than do this he went to the county farm without the knowledge of his relatives or friends.  When E. nelson of Ladysmith, a nephew, learned where he had gone he came here to arrange for a home for him, but he came too late, for as he arrived here last Monday, death forestalled him and claimed Mr. Head on Monday night.  The friends of Mr. Head realize his disposition and the feeling which actuated his removal, and do not attach any blame either upon him or his relatives.  Mr. Head was buried Thursday by the side of his sister in the Neillsville Cemetery, and his remains were followed to the grave by a large number of friends from this city and Shortville.  He is survived by his brothers, Orlando of Willow River, Minn., D. W. of Superior and Theodore of New York, and sister, Mrs. Lois Newland of Melrose.  He is one of twelve children, four sisters and four brothers having preceded him in death.  His brother, Orlando, was here for the funeral.
