Brooks, Alonzo #2 (27 FEB 1832 - 28 MAR 1910)

Monday morning Alonzo Brooks died at his home on south Court Street, after an illness of but a few days duration.  Mr. Brooks was born in Thompson County, N.Y., on Feb. 27, 1832.  When he was two years of age, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bartimus Brooks, moved to Willoughby, Ohio.  On June 4, 1854, Mr. Brooks was united in marriage to Jane Elvira Colf, and to this union three children were born, two of whom survive their father, George R. and Charles E., Jennie being deceased.  Beside the surviving wife and children, two brothers and one sister also survive the deceased.  They are Dan Brooks at Chili, Irvin Brooks of Lynn, and Electra Brooks of Lynn.

In 1860 Mr. Brooks and family came to Clark County, locating at Lynn.  During all the years of his residence in Clark County and Neillsville, Mr. Brooks has demonstrated himself as a straight-forward man, of good principles and high integrity.  He was quite a humorist, and the witticisms of old Lon Brooks will be remembered for years.  He took great interest in public affairs and was quite progressive in his ideas.  He will be greatly missed by his coterie of old friends which is of a large number.

Mr. Brooks was in apparent good health last week, but Friday complained of cramps in his stomach.  He was up and around, however, but Sunday night his heart weakened , and death came to him early Monday morning.  He was a member of the Odd Fellow fraternity, and the funeral will be held under the direction of his fraternal brothers.  The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at 1 o’clock at the family residence, and the remains were taken to Lynn for interment.
