Vorland, Gorton (14 Apr. 1908 - 11 June 1951)

Gorton Vorland, 43, Colby attorney, died Monday, the victim of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His body was discovered in the garage at the Vorland home by his wife at about 12 o’clock, midnight.

Clark county coroner John Bergemann stated that no inquest will be held. Mrs. Vorland had been at Wausau during the day and said her husband was to attend a meeting at Medford in the evening.

When the attorney did not appear for the meeting, others attending called Mrs. Vorland to ask where he was.

Vorland had been suffering from a nervous condition for the past several years and had recently returned from a Madison hospital where he had received a physical examination.

The body was taken to the Lulloff Funeral Home. Masonic rites will be held, probably, Friday.

Mr. Vorland was born April 14, 1908, at Colfax and was graduated from a law school at Minneapolis. He came to Colby in January, 1937, as a junior partner in the Jackson-Vorland law firm.

He served in the U.S. Army in Europe from 1943 until his discharge in 1945.

His marriage to Pearl Kraut took place in October, 1945.

He was a member of both the Clark and Marathon Bar Associations and of the Colby units of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, a daughter, Mary, 4, his father, George Vorland, Colby; and a sister, Mrs. George Nelson, Minneapolis.
