Holt, Mary Ellen (Marriage - 29 March 1952)

Miss Mary Ellen Holt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert W. Holt, 1101 Hewett Street, became the bride of Gerald R. Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elroy Johnson of Neillsville, at an 8:30 o’clock candlelight ceremony performed in the Methodist church last Saturday before the Rev. Virgil Nulton.  Two huge baskets of white and orchid stocks and yellow daffodils stood on either side of the altar.

The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, chose a gown of cloud-drifting nylon tulle.  It was fashioned with a fitted bodice, soft rolled collar, a lace yoke edged with seed pearls, long fitted lace sleeves and with alternating panels of Chantilly lace in the double tulle skirt that extended into a full spreading train.  Her finger tip veil fell from a lace and satin tiara with a cluster of orange blossoms at each side.  She carried a colonial bouquet of white carnations, swansonia and lilies of the valley.

For her role as maid of honor, Miss Shirley Holt, the bride’s sister, wore an orchid taffeta gown styled similar to the bride’s.  She wore matching mitts, and orchid head dress and carried a colonial bouquet of yellow roses centering a violet ring border of white swansonia.

The groom was attended by Charles Meyer of Neillsville.  Donald Schwarze of Greenwood and Harold Holt of Granton ushered.

Miss Lois Larsen sang "Oh Promise Me" and "Because" accompanied by Patricia King, a cousin of the groom.

A  reception was held in the church parlors for 100 guests.  The parlors were decorate with yellow, green, orchid and white streamers and white wedding bells.

The bride was graduated from the Neillsville High School with the class of ’51 and is employed as secretary to the county nurse.  The groom was graduated from the Neillsville High School with the class of ’46 and is now with the armed forces.

Guests were present for the wedding from Abbotsford, Greenwood, Granton, Menomonie, Cambria, Rice Lake, Chilton, Eau Claire, Colby and Marshfield.
