Miller, Jack L. 3 February 1922 - 24 June 2009) With Flag

 

Jack L. Miller, 87, (formerly of South Bend, Centre Township, IN) was taken to his home in heaven June 24, 2009.  He was born February 3, 1922, in Lakeville, IN, the son of the late Alma A. (Hardy) and Cassius L. Miller.  Jack was a WWII Navy veteran serving in mainland China with SACO, the Sino-American Cooperative Organization. SACO was a highly classified arm of Naval Intelligence with multiple assignments, including service to the Pacific Fleet and the Flying Tigers. He was an avid drummer and Chicago Bears fan.  He was a long-time member of Trinity Evangelical Free Church in South Bend.  His family was important to him, and after retirement he and his wife moved to Wisconsin to be near their daughters.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann L. Miller and a brother, Richard Miller. 

 

He is survived by his daughters: Judith A. (Richard) Maurice, Neenah, Marilyn J. (Bruce) Westphal, Thorp; a son, Daniel C. Miller, Indianapolis, IN; and a brother Cleo D. (Jean) Miller, Osceola, IN. Jack had five grandchildren: Rebecca (Roger) Mode, Jonathan Maurice, Aaron (Holly) Maurice, Suzanne Tubbs, Spec. Joseph Westphal (now serving in Iraq), and two great-grandchildren: Aleyha and Peyton.

 

A funeral service was held at Neenah’s Westgor Funeral Home.

 

The family extends special thanks to Dr. William Nelson, Dr. Patrick O’Brien, Dr. Yong Li, and Affinity Hospice.
