Clark County Historical Society (2009)

Neillsville News - By Amber Pischer - Approximately 40 people attended the Clark County Historical Society summer picnic and meeting held at the Settler’s Park in Willard Saturday, July 11.  Members of museums that were present gave a brief description of how they are doing at their museums.

Our Clark County Historical Society treasurer, Marilee Jennings, died July 4 after an automobile accident on May 28.  Amber Pischer was appointed to fill in until election in January. (Amber was former treasurer.)  President Charlotte Tetzlaff then introduced her daughter, Dr. Lucretia (Hediger) Crawford, associate professor at Lakeland College in Sheboygan, who enthralled the group with her presentation on the beginnings of the Winnebago Indian Mission in Black River Falls, later in Neillsville also, and related how Lakeland College in Sheboygan played such a huge role in getting the mission and school started in this area.  Dr. Crawford grew up in the Christie area and is well acquainted with the Indian School that was here in Neillsville.  Her presentation ended way too quickly.

The next meeting, the winter meeting, of the Clark County Historical Society is scheduled to be held in Neillsville Saturday, January 16, 2010.  For more information, contact Tetzlaff.  It was suggested to ask Dr. Crawford to return  for our winter meeting.
