Thorson, Viola #4 (27 OCT 1896 - 13 MAR 1952)

 

Mrs. Harry Thorson, nee Viola Albert, was laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery Sunday  afternoon, March 16th.  Funeral services were conducted from Griebenow’s Funeral Home at three o’clock with Rev. W. C. Nielsen officiating.  Pallbearers were Roy Auberg, Bert Beilfuss, Norbert Bruchert, Lester Himes, Felix Symanski and Williams Warns.  Those in charge of flowers were Natalie Scherf, Lorraine Christensen, Scotch Copper, Elsie McAdam, Mrs. Wm. Warns, Mrs. Wm. Beurink, Mrs. Howard Blazer, Mrs. Norbert Bruchert and Mrs. Bert Beilfuss.

 

Mrs. Thorson passed away Thursday, March 13th, 1952, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, where she was a patient being treated for cancer.  Her health had been failing for the past couple of years but even though her strength was waning her spirit, will and determination were more abundant.  She was 55 years of age at the time of her death.

 

Viola Albert was born on Oct. 27, 1896 at Chilton, Wis., later moving with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Albert, to Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.).  Here she attended the public schools, graduating with the class of 1912.  She ten continued her education by attending business college at Appleton for two years, after which she entered the field of education, serving as a school teacher in rural school in the vicinity of Thorp for 12 years, until the time of her marriage.

 

On Sept. 16, 1923 she and Harry H. Thorson, Withee, were wed in a ceremony performed at Greenwood.  This union was blessed with two children, a son, Capt. Marvin Thorson, St. Paul, Minn., and a daughter, Mrs. Lawrence (Maxine) Christopherson, Withee.

 

In addition to caring for the provisions of a devout mother she has assisted her husband in their grocery business in Withee.  Her interests were confined to her home and business, but expanded into the community as she was as active in civic and government affairs, being one of the oldest members in the Royal Neighbor Lodge at Withee, she had held office continuously for ht past 27 years.  For years she served the community as secretary of the library board and for the past two years, up until the time of her death, ahs served the village as their treasurer.

 

Survivors, in addition to her husband and two children, are her father, Theodore Albert, Withee, three sisters, Mrs. Rueben (Alice) Wersch, Milwaukee; Mrs. Carl (Nora) Replogle, Waupaca, and Mrs. Henry (Dorothy) Afrank, Garibaldi, Oregon; and two brothers, Edgar and Clinton, Withee.

 

Relatives attending the service from out of town included Capt. And Mrs. Marvin Thorson, St. Paul, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Rueben Wersch, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Replogle and family of Waupaca; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Thorson and family of Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Orville Thorson and family of Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Al Thorson, Fond du Lac; Mrs. Calvin Waggenblast, William and Helen Ohr of Hammond, Ind.; Mr. and Mrs. Kingsley Hollenbeck, Mr. and Mrs. James MacRae of New Holstein; Mr. and Mrs. Waldo Albert and family, Spencer; Mr. and Mrs. Robert McKee, Pittsville, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Albert, Mrs. Martha Albert and daughter of Vesper, and Mrs. Neil Albert of Thorp, besides a host of other relatives and friends from the surrounding community.
