Stump, Mr./Mrs. George (50th Anniv. - 15 July 1953)

July 15 was the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. George Stump. Friends called throughout the day and in the evening. Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Swedborg telephoned them from their home in Colorado, with congratulations. Mr. and Mrs. Homer Wolcott, of Wisconsin Rapids, were here Sunday for the occasion. To mark the day, Mr. and Mrs. Roland Voelker had Mr. and Mrs. Stump as dinner guests in the evening.

The Stumps have been residents of Abbotsford for more than 30 years. While here they operated a grocery and general store and also a chicken ranch. In 1937, they started a small grocery store, which they had for ten years, until poor health caused them to sell.

Mrs. Stump, the former Edith Harding, was born in England and came with her parents to Spencer in 1883. The following year they moved to Rib Lake.

Mr. Stump, who was born in Pennsylvania, came to Taylor county with his parents in 1885 and settled on a farm east of Little Black.

They were married at Rib Lake July 15, 1903, and lived in various places as Mr. Stump was a cook. He learned the jewelry trade and had a jewelry store at Westboro for 16 years.

Mr. and Mrs. Stump had four children. Their only living son, Major LeRoy Stump, is now in Germany. There are three grand children.
