Beaver, Richard, T. (07 MAR.  1940-01 FEB. 1946)

Richard T. Beaver, 6 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard J. Beaver of Watertown died Friday night, Feb. 1, as a result of a skull fracture received when he was struck by a truck in front of his home. The boy died on the way to the hospital.

The driver of the truck, Harry F. Westphal, 210 West Clifton street, Tomah, was not held. He said he did not see the boy as he approached until it was too late to avoid the accident. He applied the brakes, and the machine stopped with in 90 feet.

The boy was coasting down a driveway from his house into the street at the time of the accident, according to the police report of the mishap.

The victim of the accident was approaching his sixth birthday, which would have been next Mar. 7. He was a student in kindergarten at the Lincoln school and was due to enter St. Henry’s parochial school in Watertown next autumn. Besides his parents, he is survived by a younger brother, Howard J. Beaver Jr., aged two years, and a sister, Victoria Jean, aged three months.

The child’s mother was formerly Miss Mary Miller, daughter of Robert Miller and the late Mrs. Miller. The grandfather, Mr. Miller survives, as do the paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Beaver.

Funeral services were held on last Tuesday morning at 9:30 o’clock in St. Henry’s church, the Rev. Dean F. X. Schwinn officiating. Burial was in the St. Henry’s cemetery at Watertown.

Mrs. Nick Beaver left on Saturday, Feb. 2, to be with her son and daughter-in-law and family. Mrs. Lother Oestreich, Robert Beaver, MoMM2/c, who is home on leave from Norfolk, Va., and Patsy Beaver of Stevens Point left on Sunday afternoon and returned home on Tuesday.

To the survivors, The Tribune extends its sympathy.
