Hoogland, Dorothy (Marriage - 9 June 1956)

The marriage of Miss Dorothy Hoogland, of Catawba, and Marvin Burcaw of Milwaukee took place at the Sacred Heart Catholic church in Catawba at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 9. The Rev. Schloemer performed the ceremony before an altar decked with lilacs. Traditional wedding music was played by Mrs. A. J. Zorn.

The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a floor length gown styled with a lace bodice, sleeves which came to a point over the wrists and a Queen Anne collar. Tiers of Chantilly lace and tulle over pleated satin formed the bouffant skirt. Her fingertip veil fell from a crown of pearls and sequins and she wore a single strand of pearls and earrings, a gift of the bridegroom. She carried a bouquet of pink roses and white carnations.

Miss Alice Hoogland of Chicago was her sister’s only attendant. She wore a gown of aqua crystalette, styled with a pleated bodice and bouffant skirt. She wore a matching headpiece and gloves and carried a bouquet of pink and white carnations. She wore pearls, a gift of the bride.

Al Davis of Grand Rapids, Mich., a friend of the couple, was best man. Jerome Hoogland, brother of the bride, was usher.

The bride’s mother was attired in a navy sheer dress with white accessories. She wore a corsage of pink and white carnations. The groom’s mother wore a light blue nylon dress with matching accessories. Her corsage was of pink and white carnations.

Following the ceremony, a dinner and reception was held at the church hall for about 300 guests. The hall was decorated with white, pink and aqua streamers and lilies of the valley.

The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Hoogland, of Catawba, graduated from Phillips high school and is a 1955 graduate of Eau Claire State college. She taught second grade at Abbotsford during the past year.

The bridegroom, son of Mrs. L. Burcaw of Prentice, attended school in Prentice. He is at present engaged in construction work in Milwaukee where the newlyweds will reside.
