Dorothy (Marriage - 9 June 1956)
of Miss Dorothy Hoogland, of Catawba, and Marvin Burcaw of
Milwaukee took place at the Sacred Heart Catholic church in Catawba
at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 9. The Rev. Schloemer performed the
ceremony before an altar decked with lilacs. Traditional wedding
music was played by Mrs. A. J. Zorn.
who was given in marriage by her father, wore a floor length gown
styled with a lace bodice, sleeves which came to a point over the
wrists and a Queen Anne collar. Tiers of Chantilly lace and tulle
over pleated satin formed the bouffant skirt. Her fingertip veil
fell from a crown of pearls and sequins and she wore a single
strand of pearls and earrings, a gift of the bridegroom. She
carried a bouquet of pink roses and white carnations.
Hoogland of Chicago was her sister’s only attendant. She wore
a gown of aqua crystalette, styled with a pleated bodice and
bouffant skirt. She wore a matching headpiece and gloves and
carried a bouquet of pink and white carnations. She wore pearls, a
gift of the bride.
Al Davis of
Grand Rapids, Mich., a friend of the couple, was best man. Jerome
Hoogland, brother of the bride, was usher.
bride’s mother was attired in a navy sheer dress with white
accessories. She wore a corsage of pink and white carnations. The
groom’s mother wore a light blue nylon dress with matching
accessories. Her corsage was of pink and white
the ceremony, a dinner and reception was held at the church hall
for about 300 guests. The hall was decorated with white, pink and
aqua streamers and lilies of the valley.
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Hoogland, of Catawba, graduated
from Phillips high school and is a 1955 graduate of Eau Claire
State college. She taught second grade at Abbotsford during the
bridegroom, son of Mrs. L. Burcaw of Prentice, attended school in
Prentice. He is at present engaged in construction work in
Milwaukee where the newlyweds will reside.
Many relatives and friends were present at the wedding from Chicago, Milwaukee, Evanston, St. Paul, Minneapolis, South Holland, Ill., Eau Claire, Abbotsford, Phillips and Prentice.
