Hadlock, Retta (11 Aug. 1869 - 12 Oct. 1900)

Township of Eidsvold

It is not often that death visits a small community like this twice in the same week and that funerals are held on two succeeding days, yet such were the sad rulings of fate here last week. Wednesday morning at seven o'clock, Mrs. Emily Dedrick departed this life, after suffering nearly a year from a complication of diseases, including heart trouble, rheumatism and dropsy. The diseased was a Methodist, and the funeral services were conducted at the house by the Rev. Paul Hull, at 3 p.m. Thursday, after which the interment took place in the Eidsvold cemetery. Mrs Dedrick and son, Fayette, came here from Eau Claire 18 years ago, and about two years later moved onto a farm near here, where they have lived ever since. She was 73 years of age, and besides her son, has a brother in the west, and two sisters living near Durand, Wis., one of whom ( Mrs. Simpkins) came Thursday night but arrived too late for the funeral.

While friends were performing the last sad rites for Mrs. Dedrick Thursday afternoon, the soul of Mrs. Retta Hadlock, also a victim of heart disease, took its flight. Mrs. Hadlock was a member of the Saints Congregation, but as there was no minister of that faith near here at the present time, the funeral services were conducted by Rev. Paul Hull at the Union church at 3 p.m. Friday, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Eidsvold cemetery. The deceased was a comparatively young woman, being less than thirty years of age. She leaves a husband, Myron Hadlock, and two young children. An aged mother and a brother near Broederville, Wis., and a sister at Ada, Minn., are also called upon to mourn her demise.

*** Note: Mrs. Hadlock’s date of birth is from the cemetery index of Eidsvold Cemetery, Thorp Twp., Clark County, Wisconsin.
