Bergemann, Harland "Puffy"  (28 JAN 1908-11 OCT. 2009)

 

Harland "Puffy" Bergemann, 101, Wisconsin Rapids, formerly of Greenwood, died on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009, at Riverview Hospital, Wisconsin Rapids. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at St, Mary’s Catholic Church, Greenwood. The Rev. Joseph Follmar officiated. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery at a later date. Pallbearers were Richard Adler, Harry Johnson, Arnold Kappas, John Knox, Roger Liebzeit, Robert Mosely and Bernard Kitzhaber.

 

Harland Michael Bergemann was born on Jan. 28, 1908, in Black Creek, to Gustave and Ottilia (nee Breitenbach) Bergemann. He graduated from Granton High School in1926 and completed his education at the Milwaukee Business College. He married Evelyn G. Raab, Loyal, on June 9, 1936, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Neillsville. He was employed by the Wisconsin State Banking Department, and in 1938, became office manager of Clark Electric Cooperative, Greenwood. He retired as general manager of the cooperative in 1978. He and Bill Dahlman routinely provided the city of Greenwood use of the cooperative’s construction equipment, and were honored by having the street, "Dahlberg Avenue," named after them.

 

He was an active member of his church and community. His involvement included being a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Lady of Fatima Council #4963, St. Mary’s Memorial Trust Fund, Boy Scouts committeeman, organizer of Electric Cooperative Manager’s Association, city alderman, city clerk, member of the Industrial Development Committee and recipient of the Citizen of the year award.

 

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Evelyn, Wisconsin Rapids; four children: Richrd (Sharon) Bergemann, Omaha, Neb., Mary (Robert)) Barr, Wausau. Sally (Greg) Stelmacher, Wisconsin Rapids, and James (Kathi) Bergemann, Monroe, La.; a sister, Eileen (Ed) Davis, Ocala, Fla.; a brother, Grant (Mary) Bergemann, Tuscon, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.

 

Preceding him in death were his parents; a dearly missed daughter, Joan Anderson on Dec. 11, 1997; and four brothers, John Bergemann, Marlowe Bergemann, his twin brother Harold Bergemann, and Erlin Bergemann.

 

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Mary’s Memorial Trust Fund.
